Stellar Serpents are one of the setting's grandest images: living megastructures that blur organism, habitat, starship, ecosystem, and digital-god intelligence.
The older wiki describes them as self-sustaining biomechanical organisms whose mature bodies can become orbital rings or Dyson-like habitats.
Their importance is more than scale. They make the setting's premise visible at cosmic size: life does not merely occupy architecture; life can become architecture.
They also connect the biological and digital wings of the atlas, because their intelligence emerges from a digital afterlife context before taking on physical form.
