The important story tension is not whether Gaia is powerful. It is whether a planetary intelligence can help life without replacing the autonomy of the lives it protects.
Gaia makes the series' ecological philosophy visible: biology and culture evolve together, and any system that heals a planet also teaches the planet how to think about healing.
